Community Involvement is embedded in Richmond AID‘s work, ensuring we talk to local disabled people about the issues that affect them. Richmond AID works with disabled people to make sure they are considered when local policy or services are changed, whether this is within Richmond AID or through the council, the PCT or other organisations.
In order to do so, the Community Involvement Project runs regular consultations with disabled people to improve our services by involving clients and to enable disabled people to have a voice in the borough and influence local decision making.
Community Involvement Project Aims
Our aims are:
- To involve clients, volunteers, carers and stakeholders in the running of Richmond AID through consultations, feedback and interviews to ensure we deliver effective services and publications
- To get disabled people involved with committees, boards, groups and meetings across the borough to ensure their views and opinions are represented
- To work together with the council, RCVS, NHS Richmond and other local organisations to build up strong links and help influence local strategies and policies
- To provide reports on our community involvement work and how it has influenced borough strategies
Strawberry Hill House – Pilot Deaf BSL Guided Tour
On Saturday 10th February 25 Deaf visitors had a special private British Sign Language guided tour of the recently rennovated Strawberry Hill House. Richmond AID worked with the Community Development Team at Strawberry Hill and also with local resident Sally Reynolds to help organise this pilot tour. We are now working with Strawberry Hill House to look at the feedback we got on the day and work towards having regular BSL guided tours. Big thankyou’s must also go to Wes, who kindly provided the BSL interpreting on the day. Watch this space….
