Our History

Richmond AID was established as a registered charity in 1988. The organisation beganĀ as a telephone advice line with disabled advisors – just as the Advice Service is today. It became an incorporated charity in 1999 with a governing document that requires 51% of the Board of Trustees to be disabled or have personal knowledge of disability. Since then, we have carried out our work in the Disability Action and Advice Centre (DAAC), a building owned by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and managed by us under an initial 12-year lease.Early 2000s Richmond AID team

Our Work Today

Richmond AID is involved in many community projects at sites around Richmond upon Thames borough. Along with our offices in Teddington we visit local hospitals, other organisations and people’s homes, advising and supporting disabled people to lead independent lives. Visit our Services for Disabled People page to learn more about the services we offer and see our Get Involved page to learn how you can work with us.
